Shane Carlson homered and the Cats used a walk-off single from Cody Puckett in the tenth to take the series finale, 4-3. The game was the final home game of the 2010 regular season
With the win, Lynchburg moves to within three games of first-place Potomac, who lost earlier this afternoon.
Wilmington took an early lead against starter Chase Ware. Christian Colon reached on an infield single in the first inning. He advanced to third on Wil Myers' double, and scored on a wild pitch during Ernesto Mejia's at-bat.
The Hillcats drew level in the second when Carlson belted his third home run of the season to tie the game at one.
In the fourth, the Blue Rocks re-took the lead. They led off the inning with three straight hits by Mejia, Nick Francis and Salvador Perez. The last hit was a double by Perez that scored Mejia. Former Hillcat Eddie Prasch hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Francis. Wilmington led 3-1 after four innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cats pulled within one on Kyle Day's seventh home run of the season. The Cats evened up the score again in the sixth. With two outs, Neftali Soto and Chris Richburg hit back-to-back triples to tie the game at three.
The teams went scoreless into the bottom of the tenth. Miguel Rojas reached on an infield single to start the inning. After Jordan Wideman sacrificed him to second, Brodie Greene reached on an error to put Cats at the corners. Puckett then singled home the game-winning run.
Chase Ware started the game and gave up three runs, all earned in three and one-third innings. The bullpen went scoreless the rest of the way for Lynchburg. Abe Woody picks up the win after a scoreless tenth inning.
Lynchburg ends the 2010 season on the road starting Tuesday night at Winston-Salem. The Cats and Dash are in action at 7 p.m. Justin Walker (3-2, 7.59) starts opposite Nate Jones (10-5, 4.26). You can hear every minute of the game starting with the Hillcats On Deck Show presented by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg starting at 6:40.
