Potomac Nationals News Release

Last Time Out... The Potomac Nationals scored three runs in the ninth inning on Saturday in Frederick to storm back and win their third straight game, 6-4. With Wilmington's loss in Lynchburg, the comeback victory pushed Potomac's lead in the Northern Division to 1.5 games with ten remaining.

With the Nationals trailing 4-3, Bill Rhinehart - batting in front of the Carolina League's leader in RBIs, Tyler Moore - was walked to open the ninth. Moore then bashed his league-leading 42nd double to tie the game. Sean Rooney then bunted Moore to third with one out. New P-Nat Jamar Walton lashed his biggest hit with Potomac, a triple to right that scored Moore and gave the Nats a 5-4 lead. Robbie Jacobsen then bounced a ball to short that scored Walton and stretched the lead to two. Patrick McCoy worked around a one-out walk to earn his fourth save and close the victory.

A Hundred Homers... Bill Rhinehart's home run Saturday night was the club's 100th in 2010. When Jose Lozada homered in the eight for team homer number 101, this year's edition of the Nats moved into eight place in team history; last year's club set the all-time high with 127. Their 102nd home run will push them to 8th on the all time register (currently held by the 1994 team), and number 103 will be seventh most in franchise history (2004). Their 260 doubles are fifth most in franchise history (the 2008 team had 300).

Right at Home at the Grove... The P-Nats have now won six straight games at Harry Grove Stadium, a remarkable turnaround considering they dropped the first three of 2010 in Frederick.

A Sweep and a Split? With a win Sunday, the Nats would sweep their second straight series in Frederick and split the season set at ten games apiece. The Keys have had their way at Pfitzner Stadium, with wins in seven of the ten contests in Woodbridge.

Rewriting the History Books... With his 29th homer Friday night, Tyler Moore surpassed Hensley Meulens and Nate Dishington as the all-time leader, and now stands nine RBIs shy of the record. He became the sixth Potomac player to drive in 100 runs and stands tied for second all time with 106. The all-time record is 113, set by Troy Farnsworth in 2000 (the only season a Potomac player has won the Carolina League MVP). Moore also became the first Potomac player since Nationals affiliation began in 2005 to record 100 RBI. With 42 doubles, he is also three away from tying a franchise record; Frank Diaz roped 45 in 2005.

Drop ‘Em to their Ala-knees... With another quality start Friday in Frederick, Adrian Alaniz continued his dominance since the All Star break. In the season's second half, Alaniz is 6-1 with an ERA of 1.97. He has struck out 26 in his last four starts to surpass the century mark for 2010 (he now has 101 punchouts).

Emperors of August... Potomac has set the pace in some major statistical categories in the month of August. The Nationals, tied for the most wins in the Carolina League with 15, have hit the most home runs (27), and have the second best team ERA (3.78).

Four For Moore... For the fourth time in six weeks, Tyler Moore has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week. From August 16-22, Moore was 11-24 (.458) with four home runs, two doubles, 13 RBI and six runs scored. He slugged at a .552 clip and posted an eye-popping 1.125 OPS.
