Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Yakima Bears all but wrapped up the Northwest League Eastern Division second half title Saturday night at Gesa Stadium by defeating the Tri-City Dust Devils 4-2. One more Yakima win or Tri-City loss in any of either team's remaining eight games will clinch the first postseason appearance for the Bears since 2000, when they won the league championship.
Things started off well for the Dust Devils, as Leo Reyes drove in Nathan Hines with a single to right field to give the team a 1-0 first inning lead. They would tack on another run in the third after a Jared Simon single plated Dominic Altobelli.
The two early runs would be all Tri-City could muster, however, as Yakima scored two on a Mike Freeman single in the fourth and the final two on a Raywilly Gomez single in the sixth.
Greg Robinson (7-3) earned the win for Yakima with two innings of one-hit shutout relief. Tyler Trice (1-2) took the loss after giving up the final two Yakima runs.
The same two teams will take the field Sunday night for the second game of a three game series. The first 500 fans will receive an official 2010 Dust Devils team photo. Game time is 7:15, and tickets are available at the Gesa Stadium box office or by calling (509) 544-8789.
