Kelowna Rockets News Release
Just one day remains at the Kelowna Rockets rookie camp as each of the 130 or so prospects have skated in six games and have one more session on Sunday to make an impression.
The Rockets scouting staff has had plenty to see over the three days of games including a strong work ethic that have made for some spirited hockey games.
"Overall we're pretty pleased." said player personnel director Lorne Frey. "One thing we've really noticed is the intensity of play over the three days. The guys are all new to each other so sometimes it's not the prettiest but we can't question the work ethic. And they seem to be having fun and that's a big part of it."
Sunday morning will bring one more game each for the prospects before each gets a word with a member of the team's scouting staff. Players will have skated in seven games, giving the Rockets a good chance to see what each player can do.
"You get to know their tendencies and you can watch their strengths," said Frey. "We've identified a lot of players and now we will see how they improve."
The camp is taking place at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna while the Cirque du Soleil takes over Prospera Place.
"They've done a great job accommodating us," said Frey.
The final games of camp take place Sunday morning from 8:30 until 12:30.
