HUNTSVILLE, AL - Matt Spring cracked the first Biscuits (64-61) grand slam in over two seasons to pace a five-run first, and the bullpen delivered 5.1 hitless relief innings to hold on to a 6-5 win over the Huntsville Stars (62-65) Monday at Joe Davis Stadium.

The door was left open in the first inning thanks to a Zelous Wheeler error, making all five tallies against Huntsville starter Andre Lamontagne (3-3) unearned. Spring's slam cleared the wall in left center and made a pair of walks bite the Stars.

They added one in the second against Lamontange on a sacrifice fly from Rashad Eldridge to go up 6-0, but the Stars began to roar back. Drew T. Anderson walloped a two-run homer off Jeremy Hall to make it 6-2 in the third, and cut it to one in the fourth with three runs. Heath Rollins (4-1) came on in relief of Hall and struck out former Biscuit Chris Nowak with the bases loaded to get out of the jam intact.

Sergio Espinosa followed 2.1 hitless innings from Rollins with a pair of his own before Ryan Reid (2) nailed things down with a scoreless ninth.

Hall walked a season-high five, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits over 3.2 in a no-decision.

It was a sloppy game, with each team allowing only five hits but issuing eight walks apiece. Neither team had a player with multiple hits.

LHP Alex Torres will look to give the Biscuits a series win on Tuesday at 7:00 as he opposes RHP Michael Bowman in the second game of the series.
