Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears began their four-game series against the Lookouts on a good note by sweeping a doubleheader against Chattanooga with respective scores of 4-2 and 4-1 on Monday night at AT&T Field.
In the first game, Mobile entered the scoreboard first in the third frame. Starting pitcher Tom Layne legged out a triple and made his way home on a subsequent Evan Frey RBI single.
The BayBears scored three more runs in the sixth on a two-RBI triple from Konrad Schmidt and subsequent RBI single by Ryan Wheeler.
Chattanooga finally got to Layne in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs on the board, Trayvon Robinson doubled. Jerry Sands followed with a two-run homer to put the score at 4-2.
Daniel Strange entered the seventh inning out of the BayBears' bullpen to shut the door on the Lookouts, earning his ninth save of the season in the process.
Layne (12-6) picked up the win, throwing six innings of two-run ball. He surrendered eight hits, while striking out three and not issuing a single walk.
Mobile used a similar offensive template in the second game of the doubleheader. Chris Rahl tripled in the second inning and made his way home on an RBI single from Sean Coughlin.
The bats kept rolling in the third for the BayBears, as Mobile plated three more runs. An RBI single from Bryan Byrne and two-RBI single off of Taylor Harbin's bat paved the way for Mobile's rally.
Chattanooga finally scored in the bottom of the seventh inning. A Jaime Pedroza force out with the bases loaded accounted for the lone Lookouts run.
Jeff Dietz (3-3), who came out of Mobile's bullpen, was credited with the win by throwing two shutout innings.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mobile BayBears will continue their series at 7:15 P.M. tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
