
Braves Roll to Monday Win over Suns

Pearl, Miss. - Michael Daniel drove in three runs leading starter Randall Delgado to his first Double-A winning decision as the Mississippi Braves (56-69, 26-31) took an 8-2 win over the Jacksonville Suns (73-54, 33-24) in front of 1,437 Monday night at Trustmark Park.
Braves starter Delgado (1-5) allowed two runs and six hits over six innings with one walk and seven strikeouts in his first winning decision since July 17 as a member of the Class A-Advanced Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Brad Stone (3-2) took the losing decision, charged with five runs, two earned, over three innings of work.
The Braves scored three first inning runs against Stone. Tyler Pastornicky tripled and scored on an Eric Duncan single for a 1-0 score. Duncan moved to third base when Matt Dominguez fumbled a Mauro Gomez groundball for an error and threw wild into the first base dugout for a second error, allowing Gomez to move to second base. Michael Daniel next hit a sac fly to score Duncan for a 2-0 score before Jesus Sucre singled in Gomez for a 3-0 lead.
Mississippi added two more runs in the second inning. Yasser Gomez doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and score don a Pastornicky sac fly for a 4-0 lead. Antoan Richardson was hit by a pitch and later came in to score on a Mauro Gomez single to open a 5-0 Braves advantage.
The Suns runs came in the third inning against Delgado. Kevin Mattison singled, moved to second on a Stone bunt and scored on a Lorenzo Scott double to cut the Braves lead to 5-1. Scott later moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on groundball by Tim Torres for a 5-2 score.
The Braves extended the lead to 6-2 with a fifth inning run when Sucre scored on a Steven Cishek wild pitch. The lead opened to 8-2 in the sixth inning as Daniel doubled home Pastornicky and Duncan for the deciding runs.
Suns RH Tom Koehler (15-2) will try to equal the franchise record for wins in a single season (Dave Borkowski, 16, 1998) in game two of the series against Braves RH Julio Teheran (2-1) Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. ET. Live radio coverage is available on WFXJ-AM 930 and online at jaxsuns.com.
