Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS- For the first time since the first week of May, the Mississippi Braves found themselves playing the Jacksonville Suns, and in game one of this series, it was all Mississippi. The Braves scored five runs in their first two at bats and never looked back. Randall Delgado pitched six great innings for the Braves, striking out seven and earning his first win of the season. With the Suns in town for just three games, the Braves can take the series with a win tomorrow or wednesday.

The Braves sent seven batters to the plate in the 1st inning and scored three times. Tyler Pastornicky's triple helped spark the offense as Mississippi followed that with two singles and a sac-fly. Two Jacksonville errors also helped the Braves effort in the 1st as Suns' third baseman, Matt Dominguez, was charged for a pair of errors in the bottom of the 1st inning.

An inning later, the Braves put two more runs on the board to take a 5-0 lead. Yasser Gomez doubled to start the inning and scored on a sac-fly from Tyler Pastornicky. Mauro Gomez also singled in a run to collect his 73rd RBI os 2010. With one more run batted in, Gomez will tie the single season record for RBI's in a season by an M-Brave. Brandon Jones drove in 74 in 2007.

The only Jacksonville runs came in the 3rd inning. Kevin Mattison and Lorenzo Scott both scored to make the score 5-2, Mississippi. Scott belted an RBI double and an error by Tyler Pastornicky scored the other run. Mississippi put across one run in the 5th, as Jesus Sucre came in on a wild pitch. An inning later, Michael Daniel doubled in Pastornicky and Duncan to put Mississippi ahead 8-2, which would be the final score.

The second game of this series will be tomorrow night at 7:05 from Trustmark Park. RHP Julio Teheran (2-1; 2.70) will pitch for Mississippi, while RHP Tom Koehler (15-2; 2.78) will get the start for Jacksonville. The season series is tied (3-3) between the Suns and Braves in 2010.
