Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Reymond Fuentes went 5-for-5, and added three RBI and two runs scored, leading the Greenville Drive (60-50, 24-16) to a 17-1 rout of the Rome Braves (50-60, 20-21) in front of 5,496 fans at Fluor Field.

The Greenville offense broke out for 17 hits in the game, three shy of the highest hit total this season. The 17 runs scored is the highest this season, and the 16-run difference is the largest margin of victory for the season.

Fuentes finished the game a triple shy of the cycle. Overall, the 4-5-6 combination of Shannon Wilkerson, Michael Almanzar, and Fuentes went 10-for-16 for Greenville with six RBI and eight runs scored.

Wilfred Pichardo set the tone for the Drive offense in the third inning. He led off with a walk, and moved to second on a failed pickoff. After Sean Kileen walked, Derrik Gibson sacrificed the runners, and Zach Gentile hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Pichardo.

Greenville broke out in the fourth inning, crossing the plate five times. Wilkerson, Almanzar, and Fuentes hit consecutive singles, and Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a ground rule double to score two.

Pichardo drove in Fuentes with a groundout, and Kileen walked again. Rodriguez moved to third on a failed pickoff, and later scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. Gentile doubled in Kileen for the final run of the inning.

But Greenville was just getting started. Wilkerson led off the next inning with a double, followed by an Almanzar single. Fuentes singled in Wilkerson, and Almanzar scored on an error by the second baseman.

Gibson led off the sixth with a walk, and moved to second when Gentile singled. After two strikeouts, Almanzar launched a pitch over the left center field wall, his seventh home run of the year. Fuentes followed with a home run of his own, making it the fifth time Greenville has hit back-to-back home runs this season.

Greenville tagged on five more in the eighth, sending 11 batters to the plate. Ronald Bermudez, Fuentes, Rodriguez, Pichardo, and Kileen all scored, and Fuentes, Kileen, Gentile, and Bermudez (the second time up) recorded RBIs in the inning.

Jeff Lorick (3-5) earned the loss for Rome, pitching three and two-thirds innings and allowing six runs.

Kendal Volz started and pitched four innings for the Drive, allowing four hits and one earned run on an RBI single by Jake Hanson. Chris Court (4-0) and Dennis Neuman combined for five innings of three-hit, shutout baseball.

Greenville looks for their fourth straight victory Saturday, sending Pete Ruiz (7-8, 4.86 ERA) to match up versus Bret Devall (7-7, 3.62 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Fluor Field.

Breakin' B-Boy McCoy will make his first ever appearance at Fluor Field tomorrow, wowing the crowd with his zany dance moves. For more information regarding single-game tickets, group outings, or luxury accommodations, call (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
