Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
The Blue Crabs came from behind to defeat the York Revolution 5-1 before a crowd of 5,219 Friday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. LHP Craig Anderson (7-2) allowed a run in the first, but went on to strike out seven in as many innings and earn the win. Fellow lefty Jesus Sanchez had a game-high 10 strikeouts, but surrendered four runs in six innings to drop to 7-5 on the year. Revolution centerfielder Scott Grimes was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, and then scored from second on third baseman Ramon Castro's RBI single. It was Castro's league best 64th RBI. After the first inning, Anderson did not allow anyone to reach second base until the fifth. During one stretch he retired six York batters in a row. The Blue Crabs tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two out rally. Centerfielder Jeremy Owens and second baseman Casey Benjamin drew consecutive walks before designated hitter Matt Craig bounced an infield single to York shortstop Chuck Jeroloman. With the bases loaded, Sanchez could not find the plate against third baseman Patrick Osborn, walking him to score Owens. The Crabs offense broke loose the next inning, scoring three runs. Owens knocked an RBI ground rule double to left-centerfield, scoring rightfielder Jamar Hill. Benjamin followed with a two run, line drive double to center. Owens and catcher Travis Howell scored on Benjamin's hit, giving Southern Maryland the 4-1 lead. In the seventh, first baseman Eric Crozier scored from third on a wild pitch by York RHP Vince Perkins. RHP's Ryan Speier and Jim Ed Warden pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Crabs. At 56-36, the first place Blue Crabs maintain the best overall record in the Atlantic League, and have the circuit's best second half record at 15-7. The Blue Crabs will be back in action Saturday evening, for the middle game of this three-game series with the York Revolution at Regency Furniture Stadium, the 10th game of this 11-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with RHP Jarod Plummer (3-1, 7.22) on the mound for York, against RHP Connor Robertson (6-3, 3.79) for Southern Maryland.
