Wichita Wingnuts News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Wichita Wingnuts won the opener of their double header over the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Josh Workman hit two home runs and scored three runs, while Nick Singlton battled through six innings to earn his fourth win of the year.

Workman opened game one with a bang, hitting a home run to right-center field on just the second pitch from starting pitcher Ben Moore. Workman homered again with one out in the top of the third, this time on a deep fly ball to right that completely left Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Pheasants used two solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Brandon Sing hit his 11th of the year to deep left-center to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Hunter Jobes reached the short porch in right to tie it with his second of 2010.

The Wingnuts answered right back in the top of the fifth. With a runner on first and one out, Workman bunted for a hit which eventually put runners on second and third when catcher Eddy Rodriguez threw wild into the stands. Ryan Patterson hit an RBI single down the left field line to put Wichita back in front. Josh Horn beat out a potential double play ball that scored the Wingnuts' fourth run of the game.

The Pheasants threatened in the bottom of the inning, but Singleton pitched out of a jam to keep the Wingnuts in front. With first and third and one out, Beau Torbert singled to deep center field to cut the lead to 4-3. Singleton walked Brandon Sing to load the bases, but then got Trevor Lawhorn to hit into an inning-ending double play to keep the Wingnuts in front.

Justin Dowdy took over in the bottom of the seventh and worked around a lead off single by Tim Hutting to earn his sixth save of the year.

Singleton allowed three runs, two earned, in six innings to improve to 4-2. Moore took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5.1 IP. The win snapped the Wingnuts' five-game losing streak. Ryan Patterson and Jeff Christy each extended their hitting streaks to 13 games in a row.
