Keys Bats Quiet Again

Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys' bats did not come alive on Tuesday night as Frederick dropped their fourth straight in the 5-1 loss to Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans led from start to finish as they scored two runs in the top of the first off Keys starter Oliver Drake, and Frederick could not bounce back. In the loss, the Keys dropped their first series of the year against Myrtle Beach and saw their record fall to 29-23. With the win, the Pelicans improved to 18-34.
LF Cole Miles started the game off with a single off Drake. With 3B Dan Nelson at the plate, Miles stole second. Nelson eventually grounded out to 1B Joe Mahoney and on the play Nelson moved over to third. 2B Travis Jones, the next Pelican to come to the plate, singled home Miles to give Myrtle Beach the early 1-0 lead. DH Mike Jones hit a shot down the rightfield to bring home Travis Jones as the Pelicans had two-run advantage before Frederick even came to the plate.
LHP Matt Crim seemed to pickup where Monday's starter, Julio Teheran, left off. Crim retired the first eight Keys that came to the dish before C Brian Ward doubled to rightfield in the third inning. Ward's double was all for not as CF Xavier Avery flew out to leftfield to end the third.
Oliver Drake settled down after the rough first inning. He did not allow a run in his final five innings of work. On the night, Drake went six innings allowing two earned on seven hits. He walked two and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts in the defeat.
Frederick scored their lone run off Crim in the fifth inning. With one down, SS Greg Miclat doubled. Following a single by 3B Billy Rowell, DH Bobby Stevens chopped a ball over the head of 3B Dan Nelson to bring home Miclat. On the play, Rowell motored over to third to give the Keys another great scoring opportunity. However, C Brian Ward could not come through as he hit into, an inning ending, 6-3 double play.
The Keys would not score another run on the night as Crim picked up his third win of the season and his first as a starter. On the evening, Crim allowed one earned on six hits over 7 2/3 innings pitched. RHP Benino Pruneda closed out the victory for Myrtle Beach picking up his fourth save of the season.
The Pelicans plated insurance runs in the final innings to extend their lead. Myrtle Beach scored a run in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings as they cruised to the 5-1 win.
Frederick and Myrtle Beach will play the final game of the three-game set Wednesday night. LHP Rick Zagone (2-5, 3.59) will make his first start since throwing a nine-inning complete game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on May 26th. Zagone will be opposed by LHP Brett Oberholtzer (2-3, 5.67). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on Belly Buster Wednesday.
