(WOODBRIDGE, VA) The Winston Salem Dash came into Tuesday night's game with the Potomac Nationals in an offensive funk. Their malaise continued for the first seven innings and the Nationals looked poised to take consecutive games to open the series.

But nine runs in the final two innings reversed the script and the Dash bolted to a series-evening 9-1 victory.

Justin Phillabaum and Luis Garcia both made their first appearance since returning to the ballclub, and neither was steady. Phillabaum yielded three runs (two earned) in the eight, and Luis Garcia allowed six hits that led to six runs, all of which turned out to be unearned due to a fielding error by Garcia himself.

The suddenly muted Dash attack - their team batting average has dropped 15 points since that early May encounter as the club has lost four of five for the first time all year - was held quiet again through seven innings.

Potomac starter Adrian Alaniz neutralized the Dash for five and two thirds innings; he yielded just three hits and struck out six. He left with a 1-0 lead in the sixth, thanks to a solo home run by Robbie Jacobsen, his second in as many days.

Patrick McCoy struck out Seth Loman to end the sixth frame, then threw a perfect seventh inning before things unraveled.

The ballclubs will play the rubber match Wednesday at 7:03 P.M. It is a Belly Buster Wednesday at Pfitzner Stadium, so get your tickets by calling 703-590-2311.
