Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Jim Davis today announced his retirement from football due to a recurring back injury.

"I would like to say thank you to our coaching staff and the entire Stampeders organization for letting me make my return last season. They allowed me to continue my dream and get back on the field and I appreciate that," said Davis. "I would also like to thank all of my teammates. We had some great times and hopefully I can catch up with them again soon. Lastly, I would like to thank the fans of Calgary for supporting me. They are some of the best fans I have seen in my time."

Davis joined Calgary in August of 2009 and spent one week on the practice roster before joining the active roster. He played in the Stamps' final 10 regular-season contests and both playoff games. Davis recorded six sacks, 19 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played in 14 games with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2008 and attended Stampeders training camp in 2007.

"Jim has had a recurring back problem and unfortunately had another setback this off-season, so he decided to retire," said Stamps head coach/general manager John Hufnagel. "We wish him the best of luck and hope his recovery allows him to get back on the field."

Stamps 2010 season tickets, Power Packs and single-game tickets are available now. Fans are encouraged to contact the Stampeders' Ticket Office by phone at 403-289-0258 (or toll free at 1-800-667-3267) to get theirs today.
