(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced this evening that safety Jason Arakgi has agreed to terms on a contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not released.

"Jason has become an integral part of our special teams unit and I know he's is going to continue to develop his skill set in seasons to come," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

Over the past two seasons, Arakgi has become the premier special teams coverage man in the CFL, racking up 35 special teams tackles in 2009 to tie the team record (Mike Maurer) and receive the divisional award as the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. Despite suffering a late season injury prior to the final three games of the season, Arakgi also earned a West Division All-Star selection for the first time in his career.

"I am thrilled about the extension," said Arakgi. "I am proud to be a Lion and I have enjoyed every aspect of my time here from playing in front the CFL's best fans to taking part in community programs during the off-season. The west coast has become my home and this extension makes me even more excited about the season ahead."
