Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Michael Bowden and Carlos Torres went toe to toe on Memorial Day at McCoy. Although neither figured in the decision, both turned in great outings. The PawSox scored three runs in the eighth, snapping a 1-1 tie, winning 4-1. Bowden worked 6 innings, scattering 4 hits. He struck out 7 hitters and did not allow a run. Torres, who pitched a 5 inning perfect game at McCoy last season, surrendered one run in 6.1 innings of work. Torres fanned 10 PawSox batters.

The Sox got a run in the seventh on a base hit by Gustavo Molina. The Knights tied it in the eighth, but Pawtucket had answers in the bottom of the inning. Niuman Romero bunted his way on. He was sacrificed to second by Angel Sanchez. Lars Anderson walked and Aaron Bates broke the tie, making it 2-1 with a single. The next batter, Josh Reddick doubled in two more runs before he was thrown out at third trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Robert Manuel pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save in six tries. T.J. Large (2-0) got the win.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Jeff Marquez (4-4, 4.61) faces Boof Bonser (0-2,8.03)
