Danny Figueroa homered and Jake Arrieta tossed seven strong innings as the Tides edged the Rochester Red Wings 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Figueroa, who was promoted from Double-A Bowie earlier in the day, lifted the first pitch he saw from reliever Jose Lugo (0-3) just over the right field fence in the fifth inning for a two-run shot. The blast was his first hit at the Triple-A level and was one of just four hits for the Tides in the contest.

Arrieta (5-2) made the two runs stand up, as he allowed one run on seven hits in seven innings of work. The 24-year-old struck out six and walked two as he lowered his International League leading ERA to 1.86.

Arrieta threw 70 of his 112 pitches for strikes as he tied teammate Chris Tillman for the organizational lead with five wins on the season.

Kam Mickolio followed Arrieta with a scoreless eighth inning, and Dennis Sarfate worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth inning to register his first save of the year.

The win salvaged a split of the four-game series for the Tides, who have now won or split each of their last four home series.

Matt Tolbert paced Rochester's offense with an RBI single in the fifth inning, while Jason Repko added two singles, a stolen base and a run scored. The loss denied Rochester of its first series win of 2010.

After an off day Wednesday, Norfolk will travel to Pawtucket to start an eight-game road trip, while Rochester will continue their road swing with a four-game series in Durham.

Game time for Norfolk on Thursday is 7:05, with Chris George (1-1, 4.22) slated to take the mound for the Tides against right-hander Boof Bonser (0-2, 10.61).
