Salem, VA (May 23, 2010) - One day after Salem handed Potomac its first shutout of the year, the Nationals returned the favor on Sunday, blanking the Red Sox 6-0 at Lewis-Gale Field. Robinson Fabian yielded just four hits, all singles, over seven overpowering innings to hold Salem scoreless, and Evan Bronson and Cole Kimball each threw an inning in relief to complete to shutout and give Potomac the series victory in the Roanoke Valley. The win moved the Nationals to 20-24, while the Sox dropped to 26-18.

Potomac took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to the great foot-speed of Boomer Whiting. After chugging out an infield single, Whiting scored all the way from second on a grounder to first. Whiting took off on the pitch and never hesitated in his sprint around third, sliding head-first across home plate, seconds before the tag from Tim Federowicz.

Three innings later, the Nationals struck for four more runs off Salem starter Fabian Williamson, who got tagged for six runs overall on five hits over four and two-thirds innings. Tyler Moore cracked RBI doubles in both the fourth and fifth innings, while Will Ortiz belted a two-run bomb, his first home run of the year, that made it 5-0 in favor of Potomac. Moore's second double knocked Williamson out of the game with two outs in the fifth, and Williamson suffered his second loss of the season, falling to 4-2.

Fabian dominated by throwing strikes, only twice reaching a three-ball count over his seven dominant frames. Fabian struck out five and did not walk anybody. Only once did he face a batter with multiple runners on base, and he retired Will Middlebrooks with two on and two gone in the sixth to quell the threat.

Middlebrooks finished 2-4, the only Salem Sock to register multiple hits on Sunday afternoon. All of Salem's six knocks were singles. The Sox bullpen tossed four and a third scoreless in relief of Williamson, with Michael Lee striking out three over two and a third innings, while Lance McClain K'd one in his two-inning stint to finish the game.

The Red Sox will rest up on Monday with their only scheduled off-day in the month of May. On Tuesday, Salem opens up a critical three-game series against the first-place Winston-Salem Dash, who currently lead the Red Sox by five games in the Southern Division. First pitch is set for 7:05, with Salem's Caleb Clay ready to oppose Winston's Terry Doyle in the series opener.
