Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive (11-7) currently find themselves on a roll.
Having to wait a day for the start of their series with the Lexington Legends (10-8), didn't seem to have any ill effects, as Greenville completed a doubleheader sweep Sunday at Fluor Field.
Although they fell behind 3-0 after one and a half innings in game one, the Drive mounted a comeback and secured a 6-3 victory.
They didn't have to worry about the Legends at all in game two, posting a 4-0 shutout.
After allowing a pair of runs in the first, and another in the second, Kendal Volz (3-0) was able to bear down and face the minimum number of batters over the final three innings of his outing.
Meanwhile the Drive offense inched closer to victory.
Greenville pulled within a run when Vladimir Frias doubled in a run in the second, and Dan Butler added an RBI-single in the third.
Butler's RBI-double tied the game in the fifth, and he later scored the go-ahead run on Ronald Bermudez's two-out single.
Michael Almanzar added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double.
That was more than enough as Jeremiah Bayer pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth save.
In game two, Manuel Rivera turned in another solid effort from a Drive starting pitcher, allowing just two singles in 5.0 shutout innings, while fanning four.
Greenville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their very first at bat, as Chris McGuiness homered to right-centerfield, with Jeremy Hazelbaker aboard.
The game's final runs came in the bottom of the fourth, which started with Bermudez's solo homer to leadoff the frame.
Reymond Fuentes then doubled, went to third on Zach Gentile's groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Drive and Legends continue their four-game series on Monday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM from Fluor Field.
A pair of right-handers will duel as Roman Mendez (0-1, 15.26 ERA) heads to the hill for Greenville, as Lexington counters with Jose Cisnero (1-0, 7.11 ERA).
During tomorrow's festivities, the Drive and Michelin will honor the 2010 Reading All-Stars from Greenville County elementary schools, which includes a pre-game parade around the Fluor Field warning track.
