Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Delvi Cid's two-run single capped a three-run tenth inning rally, sending the Lake County Captains (9-0) to a 6-3 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (3-6) on Friday night on Jackson Field.
All of Lansing's series this season have ended in sweeps, with Lake County's three consecutive victories halting a three-game winning streak the Lugnuts carried home from Great Lakes.
Kyle Smith and Greg Folgia began the tenth inning with consecutive doubles off of reliever Steve Turnbull (0-2), breaking a 3-3 tie. After two groundouts sandwiched around a Casey Frawley walk, Cid sent a bouncer up the middle to plate both Folgia and Frawley.
Rob Bryson (2-0) notched the win for Lake County, holding the Lugnuts off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth innings. Cory Burns pitched the tenth for his league-leading fourth save.
Lugnuts center fielder Kenny Wilson and pitcher Dustin Antolin were both ejected from the game by home plate umpire Nick Mahrley after Wilson was called out on strikes to lead off the bottom of the tenth.
The ballgame was scoreless through the first four-and-a-half innings before a Ryan Schimpf RBI single and a Mark Sobolewski two-run single put the Lugnuts on the board in the home fifth.
Lake County answered with three runs in the top of the sixth against Lansing starting pitcher Chad Jenkins to tie the score.
The Captains pounded out 15 hits in the game, three each by Bo Greenwell and Kyle Smith, improving their league-leading team batting average to .306.
On Saturday at 4:05 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium, the Lugnuts welcome the Bowling Green Hot Rods to town for the opener of a three-game series. Lansing right-hander Ryan Tepera (0-0, 8.10) will start against Bowling Green left-hander Kyle Lobstein (0-0, 0.00).
Tickets to the April 26th Crosstown Showdown as well as the entire Lugnuts' 2010 home schedule are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
