Biscuits Win Pitchers' Duel

Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - John Matulia tripled home a run in the sixth and the Biscuits rode a combined shutout to win their first game of the season, 1-0.
The story of the night, though, was the return of Jake McGee. The Biscuits 2008 Opening Day starter returned to the Capital City after a season of rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in the lower minors and tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three and walking two.
The five-inning-outing is made even more incredible when considered that McGee's deepest outing all of last season was 3.0.
He gave way to another feel-good story. Less than 24 hours after surrendering five runs on seven hits in the 13th, Justin Garcia (1-1) answered the loss with two perfect innings and three strikeouts en route to the win.
Paul Phillips came on and pitched the final two innings, and got Taylor Harbin to line out to centerfield with the tying run on third and two outs to nail down his first save.
The action in the fateful Biscuits sixth all came with two outs. Drew Anderson, making his first start of the season, singled to keep the frame alive for Matulia, who stroked one down the first base line.
BayBears starter Matt Torra went five innings, allowing no runs on five hits. Kyler Newby (0-1) allowed the lone run, and picks up the loss in three innings of relief.
The Biscuits will look to even the series at two games on Sunday afternoon as LHP David Newmann takes the bump for the Biscuits against Mobile RHP Brian Shaw. First pitch is set for 2:05 on a Riverwalk Stadium Kids Day.
