Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Huntsville Stars jumped on the Lookouts early and never looked back in an 11-1 victory over the Lookouts on Saturday night. Three Huntsville pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter in the contest at AT&T Field.
Lookouts starting pitcher Mario Alvarez (0-1) received a rude welcoming from the 2010 season, courtesy of the Huntsville Stars offense. After a Brett Lawrie walk and subsequent steal, Caleb Gindle doubled to left to plate Lawrie. Taylor Green would later double to put the score at 2-0.
Huntsville's Mark Rogers, who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, helped his own cause by hitting a double in the second. Lorenzo Cain followed with a single to push Rogers to third, while a Lawrie force out gave the Stars a 3-0 edge.
Alvarez's struggles continued and culminated in the fourth, resulting in an early departure for the righty. After striking out Anderson Machado to begin the inning, Rogers followed with a strikeout, but a wild pitch allowed his counterpart to reach first. The seemingly innocuous play catalyzed a three-run rally for Huntsville. Four singles and a throwing error by catcher Lucas May accounted for the damage, and the Stars now found themselves with a 6-0 lead.
Rogers finally hit some turbulence in the fifth, when he walked Anthony Hatch and eventually relinquished his first hit of the evening: an RBI double by Jaime Pedroza.
The Lookouts' gains were quickly negated by a Lawrie solo shot in the sixth. Already armed with a 7-1, Huntsville added four superfluous runs in the seventh. Lawrie struck again with an RBI triple, while Jonathan Lucroy added insult to injury with a two-RBI double to highlight the rally. The 11-1 score would be upheld until the completion of the contest.
Rogers, despite his stellar effort, completed only 4.2 innings. As such, relief pitcher Jim Henderson (1-0) was credited with the win by throwing 2.1 perfect innings. Mark Willinksy pitched the final two innings to preserve the collective one-hit performance.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Huntsville Stars will continue their five-game series at 2:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
