April 7, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have announced left-handed pitcher Felix Doubront as the opening day starter. The Sea Dogs open the 2010 season on Thursday, April 8th at 7:05 PM against the Reading Phillies in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Sea Dogs home opener is slated for Thursday, April 15th at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees).

The 22 year-old Doubront will be opposed by right-handed Vance Worley for the Reading Phillies on April 8th. Doubront, the organization's 18th ranked prospect according to Baseball America, spent the entire 2009 season with Portland posting an 8-6 record with a team-best 3.35 ERA and 101 strikeouts. His 3.35 ERA ranked second amongst Eastern League qualifiers, and his 101 strikeouts ranked eighth. Doubront's efforts warranted him the honor of being named 2009 Sea Dogs' Pitcher of the Year in his first season at the Double-A level.

A native of Carabobo, Venezuela, Doubront is now in his 6th season in the Red Sox organization after signing as an international free agent in 2004. Coming off a career year in 2009, Doubront was a non-roster invitee to Red Sox Spring Training and is currently a member of their 40-man roster.

Rounding out the Portland rotation will be Ryne Miller, Kyle Weiland, Stephen Fife, and Casey Kelly. Including Doubront, four of Portland's five starters are considered Top 30 Prospects in the Red Sox organization according to Baseball America.
