Published on March 15, 2010 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will look to extend their lead in the North Division and Western Conference standings as they embark on a seven game road trip to close out March. The 'Dogs have three games slated for this week, beginning with a St. Patrick's Day matchup against the Adirondack Phantoms (American Hockey League affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) at 7:00 PM EST. The Bulldogs will then take on two North Division rivals this weekend, as they will visit the Lake Erie Monsters (American Hockey League affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) on Friday, March 19th for a 7:30 PM EST contest, and will then travel to Toronto for a 4:00 PM EST game against the Marlies (American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) on Saturday, March 20th.
Last week, the Bulldogs concluded a 10-game home stand with two victories and one defeat. The 'Dogs began the week at Copps Coliseum on Tuesday, March 9th with a showdown against their Southern Ontario rivals, the Toronto Marlies. D Yannick Weber scored in overtime, giving the Bulldogs their ninth straight victory, tying their franchise record for team winning streak. Hamilton then played host to the Grand Rapids Griffins (American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings) for a pair of North Division matchups on Friday, March 12th and Saturday, March 13th. The Griffs were too much for the Bulldogs on Friday, defeating the home side 3-2. The 'Dogs avenged that loss with yet another extra-time victory on Saturday, as C Ben Maxwell, C Brock Trotter, and C Ryan Russell each converted in the shootout, giving Hamilton a 4-3 shootout win.

BULLDOGS NOTES:
* The Bulldogs had their season-best and franchise record-tying nine-game winning streak snapped when they fell to the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 on Friday, March 12th.
* Hamilton's 96 points are currently 18 more than any other team in the North Division.
* The 'Dogs have clinched a birth in the 2009-2010 Calder Cup playoffs. * Bulldogs C Brock Trotter is currently the AHL's 6th leading scorer with 28 goals and 36 assists for 64 points on the year.
* Each of the Bulldogs' last four victories have come after regulation. Hamilton was victorious in shootouts over the Chicago Wolves and Hartford Wolf Pack on March 5th and 6th respectively, then needed overtime to dispose of the Toronto Marlies on March 9th. In their latest victory on Saturday, March 13th, the Bulldogs converted three times in the shootout to outlast their visitors from Grand Rapids with a 4-3 shootout win.
* Hamilton D P.K. Subban has set a new franchise record for points by a Bulldogs defenceman in a single season. Subban's spectacular assist on LW J.T. Wyman's second period goal of Hamilton's 4-1 win over Adirondack on March 3rd was the rookie's 45th point of the season - most ever by a 'Dogs d-man in a single campaign. Subban now has 14 goals and 33 assists this season, complemented by a +37 rating - the second highest +/- rating in the league.
* The goaltending tandem of Cedrick Desjardins and Curtis Sanford has been spectacular between the pipes for Hamilton this season, resulting in a league best 2.21 team goals against average. Desjardins' 1.93 GAA puts him in top spot in the AHL in that category, while Sanford's 2.07 GAA ranks him 2nd in the league.
* Bulldogs D Andre Benoit set a new franchise record for career points by a Bulldogs defenceman with his 86th career point in Hamilton's 4-1 win over Adirondack on March 3rd. Benoit assisted on Mike Glumac's second period goal, giving him the new title as the highest scoring defenceman in Bulldogs history.
