Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced that the 6th Annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, a collaborative initiative of the Bakersfield Condors, Bakersfield Ice Sports Center and Links for Life, is slated for the weekend of Mar. 19-20. To date, the Hockey-Thon has raised more than $203,000 for Links for Life, a local breast cancer resource center.
The Hockey-Thon is comprised of a 24-plus hour hockey marathon for participants of all ages and skill levels, includes two Condors games and is highlighted with the Condors Alumni and Celebrity Game, in which the former Condors and local dignitaries, including media members, local politicians and civic leaders, will be wearing specially-designed pink breast cancer awareness jerseys that will be auctioned off following their game. The Alumni and Celebrity Game starts at 5 p.m., doors open at 4:45 p.m.
Participants can sign up by following the link on the Condors home page. After filling out a simple registration form, each participant can print a pledge sheet and start collecting pledges. Each participant must raise a minimum of $200 in pledges in order to participate. The top three pledge collectors will split 15 lower level tickets to a Los Angeles Kings game. Also, the first 200 people to sign-up will receive a free 6th Annual Condors Fight Cancer Hockey-Thon jersey. All participants will receive two Condors tickets to each of the games on Friday, Mar. 19 and Saturday, Mar. 20.
The Hockey-Thon originally was conceived and organized by Condors Legend Kevin Barrett, shortly after losing his mother to breast cancer. Proceeds from the event benefit Links for Life, as they continue to provide a myriad resources from support groups and wigs to mammograms and scholarships for local women affected by breast cancer.
The event begins Friday, Mar. 19 at 7 p.m., the start of the Condors game. Beginning at 11:59 p.m., all through the night, Hockey-Thon participants will take part in organized hockey games at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center, located behind Rabobank Arena. The games will conclude at 5 p.m. on Mar. 20 for the Alumni Game, immediately followed by the Condors game at 7 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.
To conclude the Hockey-Thon, the Condors will host the Victoria Salmon Kings for their regularly scheduled game at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Plus, alumni game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off, and an opportunity drawing and silent auction table will be set up during the Condors game, offering great prizes and items.
