Icehawks Trade With Dayton Gems

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks have completed a trade with the Dayton Gems and acquired right wing Matt Auffrey and rookie defenseman Cody Hamilton in exchange for defenseman Adam Maccarone and left wing Matt Maccarone. Per team policy, details of the deal were not disclosed.

Auffrey (6-2, 203 lbs) is in his third professional season. He had a strong showing with the Gems and recorded 25 points on eight goals and 17 assists in 54 games. He signed with Dayton after beginning his professional career in the ECHL with stints with the Augusta Lynx, Florida Everblades and Dayton Bombers. He was called up to the American Hockey League for two games with the Albany River Rats during the 2008-09 season.

The 24-year old Cincinnati, Ohio native played two seasons of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA and also in the OPJHL, OHL and NAHL before turning pro. His junior career included two seasons with the U.S. National Under-18 Team from 2002-2004.

Hamilton (6-2, 196 lbs) qualifies as a rookie in the International Hockey League, though he is in his second professional season. He began the 09-10 campaign with the Laredo Bucks in the Central Hockey League, before signing with Dayton in late January. He dished out eight assists in 20 games with Laredo and tallied seven points (1g, 6a) in 16 games with the Gems.

The 22-year old native of Lucknow, Ontario turned pro in the 2008-09 season with the Tulsa Oilers after three seasons of junior hockey in the OPJHL.

Brothers Adam and Matt Maccarone have been teammates at multiple points in their career. Their stint in Dayton marks the fourth team they have played on together.

Adam Maccarone came to the Icehawks at the beginning of the 2009-10 season after attending training camp with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League. He played three seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University and also six games with the CHL Tulsa Oilers before signing in Port Huron. The rookie defenseman had 11 points (4g, 7a) in 55 games with Port Huron.

Matt Maccarone signed with the Icehawks on February 18 and recorded three points on two goals and one assist in six games. The left wing began the 2009-10 season in training camp with the New York Rangers, where he played two preseason games before being sent to the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL. After training camp with the Wolfpack, Maccarone spent time with the Whitby Dunlops of Ontario's Major League Hockey and Finnish professional team Roki.

The Icehawks travel to Flint on Wednesday to take on the Generals before returning home for a pair of games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday and Saturday.
