Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced that RW Matt Pope has been reassigned by the Vancouver Canucks to the Condors. He had been playing all season in the American Hockey League with the Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Canucks.

Pope, 25, is in his second professional season. The Vancouver Canucks signed Pope to his first NHL contract on Sept. 28 and he skated with the NHL team in training camp. He was subsequently assigned to Manitoba and has one assist and 19 penalty minutes in 25 games with the Moose.

Pope composed a record-breaking rookie season in Bakersfield in 2008-09, finishing third on the team in goals (30) and fourth in points (63), while playing in just 54 games. His goal total is second in Condors history for rookies, while his assist and point total are both Condors rookie records. The Langley, British Columbia, native earned professional try-out contracts (PTO) with Binghamton and with Manitoba at the end of the regular season, and spent the entire playoffs with the Moose. He finished with eight points (4g-4a) in 12 regular season AHL games, and added six points (3g-3a) in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The ECHL rewarded Pope for his efforts last season with a selection as a starter for the National Conference at the ECHL All-Star Game last January, and at the end of the year he was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team, the fourth All-Rookie Team selection in Condors history.

What Marty Raymond says: "With the loss of so many players over the last few weeks, it's good to have a young man come in who is an AHL caliber player. I know he will help us out while he's here."
