Temple Earns Gatorade Call-Up To Houston, Conroy Rejoining Vipers

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that guard Garrett Temple (6-5, 180, LSU) is the fifth GATORADE Call-Up in franchise history, and the third this season, after signing a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets today.

Temple takes the roster spot of recent GATORADE Call-Up Will Conroy (6-2, 195, Washington), whose 10-day contract expired today. The Vipers are re-acquiring Conroy, who will be in uniform for tomorrow's game in Fort Wayne.

Temple joined the Rockets today and is expected to be in uniform for tomorrow's game in Miami.

The Vipers have also acquired guard Russell Carter (6-4, 200, Notre Dame), who started the season with the Austin Toros.

An All-NBA Development League Showcase honorable mention selection, Temple is averaging 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.9 minutes over the course of 30 games and starts. He is shooting 42.7% from the field, 37.2% from behind the arc and 80.4% from the free throw line.

"Garrett is a versatile player who can play multiple positions. Garrett spent a lot of time with our coaching staff during the summer as a member of our Summer League entry as well as during training camp. He's done a great job with the Vipers this season and his familiarity with the system will allow him to step right in and provide added depth at two positions where we are a little thin, due to injury," said Rockets Vice President of Player Personnel Gersson Rosas, who is also the General Manager of the Vipers.

In two games with the Rockets, Conroy scored four points while picking up two rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes of action as the back-up point guard.

In 13 games with the Vipers, Conroy is averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Conroy is the NBA Development League's all-time leader in points (2,960), assists (1,372), minutes played (6,181), free throws made (714) and free throws attempted (1,017). He is also third all-time in steals (249).

"Will's return to the Vipers gives us back our experienced floor general and a veteran presence for the team as we go through some roster adjustments. We look forward to seeing Will pick up where he left off, along side Mike (), towards a strong finish to our first half," Rosas said.

In 15 games (four starts) with the Toros, Carter averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 16.4 minutes of action. He shot 38.3% from the field. Carter, who had a season-high 19 points against the Vipers on November 28, last played for Austin on January 8.

"Russell provides us with depth and scoring ability at the wing position. He's a guy we had our eye on during the NBA Development League draft and now have the opportunity to look at him more closely on our roster," Rosas said.
