D-Fenders Lose Game Clincher To 66ers
February 8, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
Los Angeles, CA - A late effort by the Los Angeles D-Fenders wasn't enough to steal the win over the Tulsa 66ers, bringing the final score to a devastating loss for the D-Fenders, 100 to 101.
The D-Fenders jumped out to a strong start in the first quarter, leading by as many as 10 points with five minutes left in the quarter. Tulsa powered back, to take the lead with one minute left in the first, closing the quarter with a 26 to 25 advantage over the home team.
Tulsa maintained their lead throughout the second quarter, with Mustafa Shakur nailing the first three of the game, to seal the lead 53 to 46 at the half. The 66ers out rebounded the D-Fenders 33 to 12 at the end of the first half, contributing to their first half advantage.
The D-Fenders hit three threes at the end of the third but were not able to make the comeback. Tulsa outscored Los Angeles 27 to 22, closing the quarter 80 to 68.
The D-Fenders were able to outscore the 66ers 32 to 21 in the fourth quarter. Despite their late run the 66ers managed to pull over the one-point win.
Five of the D-Fenders scored in double-digits with Joe Crawford leading his team with 22 points. Teammate Diamon Simpson also contributed, posting a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Tulsa's Shakur led his team with 21 points while four of his teammates also scored in the double-digits.
"They played harder than us for most of the game, but I think we played harder than them in the fourth quarter. We can't wait until our backs are against the wall; we have to play hard all the time," said Head Coach Chucky Brown. "If we play on Wednesday like we did in the fourth quarter, we will come away with a win."
The D-Fenders are set to host the 66ers again on Wednesday, February 10. The teams will play at the Toyota Sports Center with tipoff at 3:30pm PST. Tune in to the NBA Futurecast at www.nba.com/futurecast to watch the Los Angeles D-Fenders take on the Tulsa 66ers.
