
Spitfires, Windsor And Essex Country Rotary Clubs "Toonies for Haiti" Initiative Generates $11,000

(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires, in conjunction with the Windsor and Essex County Rotary Clubs are proud to announce that the best fans in the CHL contributed $5,500 to the "Toonies for Haiti" fundraising event at the Spitfires home game versus the Guelph Storm on January 28th at the WFCU Centre. Additionally, for every dollar donated by Spitfire fans, the Canadian International Development Agency matched this amount by donating $5,500 on behalf of the "Toonies for Haiti" initiative.
A total of $11,000 will be distributed to the Shelter Box program a program which will ship a ten person shelter to the residents of Haiti for each $1,000 raised.
"The best fans in the CHL have come through again and raised $5,500 to assist those in dire need of help in Haiti. Our organization is proud of the contributions made by our fans for not only the "Toonies for Haiti" night but for all of the community-based projects that we have conducted at our games this season. We would also like to thank the Windsor and Essex Country Rotary Clubs for their hard work in collecting the funds and for their continued efforts in supporting charitable causes." said Windsor Spitfires President and Head Coach Bob Boughner.
Arnie Charlton, Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6400 for the Windsor and Essex County Rotary Clubs said, "We would like to thank the entire Spitfire organization for their compassion and outstanding community spirit on our combined fund raising initiatives. We look forward to working on various community and world projects now and in the future with the Spitfires."
