Soo Greyhounds News Release

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is proud to announce that team captain Jacob Muzzin has agreed to a three-year Standard Player's Contract with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Muzzin, who is in his 5th season with the Hounds was originally selected by the club in the 1st Round of the 2005 OHL Priority Selection. After missing his first eligible year, the Woodstock Ontario native has played in 203 regular season games to-date accumulating 23 goals and 74 assists, good for 97 points.

This season Muzzin leads team offense with 46 points and also is the top defensive scorer in the OHL.

One season ago, Jake was named to the OHL's Western Conference All-Star roster

"Our organization is very proud of Jake and his accomplishments over his 5 years with the Soo Greyhounds. To know what adversities he has faced early in his career and to see him grow and develop as a young man and as a hockey player has been very rewarding" began Hounds GM Dave Torrie.

"As an organization we are proud of the role we have played in helping Jake achieve his goal of signing with an NHL organization. Our coaches have done a great job of working with Jake to help him become the player he is today. We all look forward to following Jake's progress and anticipate the day he realizes his dream of playing in the NHL" concluded Torrie.

Originally selected in the 5th Round (141st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Muzzin would go unsigned and become a free agent last season. This past September Jake was invited to the Nashville Predators camp garnering substantial interest before this recent signing.

"We are excited to have Jake in our organization and view him as a good prospect. He has a blend of size, grit, skill and competitiveness that our organization's covets" stated Kings Vice-President / Assistant GM Ron Hextall.

Los Angeles currently sits 3rd in the NHL's Pacific Division, 8th in the Western Conference with a record of 24-15-3.

Jake becomes the third player within the last three years to sign with Los Angeles. Former Greyhound forward Wayne Simmonds is with the NHL club while former defenseman Andrew Campbell is with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL.
