
Otters' Zack Torquato Named Boston Pizza OHL Player Of The Week

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Zack Torquato of the Erie Otters is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 3. Torquato led the league in scoring with 10 points in four games including five goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.
Torquato began 2010 with his best performance of the season on Saturday with a four-point game scoring two goals including the game-winner and adding two assists as second star in leading the Otters to their third straight victory with a 7-5 win over the Guelph Storm. Earlier in the week he celebrated New Year's Eve with a goal and an assist in the 8-7 win over the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday. He also scored two goals with an assist on Tuesday in a 4-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit, and recorded an assist despite a 3-2 overtime loss to the Plymouth Whalers last Monday but was still recognized as the game's third star.
Torquato, a 20-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season and third full season with the Otters. He is currently ranked ninth overall in league scoring with 49 points in 39 games including 19 goals and 30 assists. He was selected in the sixth round by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Also considered for the award this week was a pair of Kitchener Rangers including rookie Gabriel Landeskog and forward Jeff Skinner. Landeskog scored four goals and four assists for eight points in four games with a league-high plus-minus rating of plus-7, while Skinner led the league with six goals and added an assist for seven points in four games. In goal, Tyler Beskorowany of the Kingston Frontenacs went 2-0-1-0 in three starts posting a goals-against-average of 1.97 and a save percentage of.947 with one shutout.
