Sioux City Musketeers News Release
On Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th, the Sioux City Musketeers and Chili's Restaurant will be teaming up to help the Gospel Mission as they serve those who are in need.
Fans are encouraged to bring a bag of food to either of the Musketeers home games to be used in the Gospel Mission's Food pantry to help ease the burden of the ongoing demand. Currently, the Gospel Mission serves over 330 meals a day, which is up 61% since May, to men, women, and children who both stay at the Mission or strapped for food. "Our goal is to serve anyone who is in need of a hot meal or a place to stay." states Vernon Meyer, Director of Development for the Gospel Mission. "We are starting to see families who are displaced coming to eat with us and we are glad to be able to support them by providing them with meals until they can get back on their feet."
Rich Zaber, Vice President for the Musketeers, says "Sponsoring the Gospel Mission will be an honor for us, because we recognize the need in our community and we are thankful to be able to help anyway we can." The Musketeers will be offering a drawing for a Musketeers Jersey for anyone who contributes at least $50 to the Gospel Mission either of the 2 home games. "We feel that asking fans to bring food is a good way for everyone to help, but we hope that people will support the Mission financially and for doing so, we will give away one jersey, to be drawn at the second intermission on Saturday." commented Zaber. In addition to the jersey, there will be smaller drawing items for anyone giving a contribution of $ 5 or more at either game on behalf of the Musketeers and Chili's.
Chili's will be holding Gospel Mission Week at its restaurant from Sunday, December 20th thru Sunday, December 27th. 10% of all of the sales, from a coupon being offered by Chili's, will go directly to support the Gospel Mission. Coupons may be acquired by contacting Vernon Meyer at the Gospel Mission at 712-253-9927 or if customers walk into Chili's and state they are here to support the Gospel Mission, 10% will be donated back to their organization. "We believe sponsoring the Gospel Mission will give their organization the resources they need to provide meals and shelter to those who need a warm meal and a warm place to stay, especially throughout the winter months." states Michelle Merrigan, General Manager of Chili's Restaurant. "We hope people in Siouxland see that need and join us in our effort to support this wonderful organization"
Since 1938, the Gospel Mission has been serving Siouxland by providing shelter and meals to those less fortunate. Today, they have grown to serve not only the homeless, but families who are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis. Each day, 330 meals are served, over 107 men, women and children stay at the shelters, and each week 86 families are serviced by the food pantry and thrift stores. We encourage everyone to come out on December 18th and 19th to root on your Sioux City Musketeers and help us, help those who need a loving hand!
