Soo Greyhounds News Release
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is proud to announce that goaltender Robin Lehner (SWEDEN) and forward Tomas Rachunek (CZECH REPUBLIC) have both been invited to attend their respective countries training camp for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.
Both players are expected to start their bid for a National roster spot in Mid-December.
"We are very happy and proud that Robin and Tomas have been selected to attend camps that could lead to them representing their respective countries. It is a unique opportunity for any player to play for his country in an international event and we wish both players success and hope they can secure their goal of representing their country in the World Under 20 championships" stated Hounds GM Dave Torrie.
Lehner, who is in his rookie season with the Hounds, is no stranger to international competition. The Gothenberg, SWE native has previously participated in both the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament and the 2009 World Under 18 Hockey Championship in Fargo, North Dakota. Most recently, the Hounds goaltender backstopped the team to three consecutive victories along with registering his 1st and 2nd career OHL shutouts. He enters week 11 of OHL action with a 8-7-0-1 win/loss record, 2.58 GAA and .923 SV%
As for Rachunek, this will provide him with yet another opportunity at an international tournament. At the 2009 Under 18 World Championship he participated in 6 games for Czech Republic registering 1 goal and 2 assists, for 3 points and was the team's 4th leading scorer. The native of Zlin looks to follow in the footsteps of David Kuchejda (2007), Jakub Cech (2005), Martin Tuma (2005), Petr Taticek (2003) and Josef Vasicek (1999) in representing the Hounds and the Czech Republic in this event.
The 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship takes place in Saskatoon/Regina, SK from December 26, 2009 to January 5, 2010.
The Soo Greyhounds ownership, management, players and staff wish both Robin and Tomas the best of luck in their Quest to the West.
