
Oilers Sort Ton And Half Of Food

Get a talented hockey team and some dedicated community volunteers together for a couple of hours what do you get-about a ton and a half of food sorted and labeled at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The Tulsa Oilers, first place in the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference, spent part of their Wednesday afternoon volunteering at the food bank. They helped sort and label canned food items. Officials with the food bank said the Oilers prepared 3,000 pounds of food for distribution.
"What a wonderful representation the Oilers are for Tulsa," Cindy Stevens, director of marketing and community relations for the Community food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma said. "They were wonderful and really pitched in to help us. We were honored to have the Oilers here."
For the entire month of November, fans who bring two canned food items to any Oilers home game receive a coupon good for a free Whataburger and a discount for their next purchase of Oiler tickets.
"Whataburger has been a great partner on this food drive this year," Oilers general manager Taylor Hall said. "Our guys were happy to help out at the food bank."
"It's a good thing to help out in the community, especially this time of year," Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay, who led the Oilers contingent, said. "There's a big need for it and we were glad to do our part and hope others can find the time to help out. "

The Oilers play at Missouri Friday and Wichita Saturday at 7:05 p.m. their next home game is Sunday against Wichita at 4:05 p.m. at the BOK Center. All games can be heard via the internet at www.tulsaoilers.com and viewed at CHL TV.
