Oh Godoy- Brahmas Sign Special Teams Specialist

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 18)- As the Brahmas departed for their three game Texas road trip on Wednesday, they added a new name to the 2009-10 roster with the signing of forward Elias Godoy.

Along with Godoy's arrival is the hope for a powerplay revival as the newly acquired winger has been a special team's catalyst the past two seasons, including his time with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in 2007-08. Last year the West Vancouver, BC native played overseas in Norway with the Frisk Tigers collecting 50 points (16 G, 34 A) and 155 penalty minutes in 43 games. Averaging over a point per game gave Godoy a tie for the team lead in points (10th in the league). Godoy put up impressive numbers on the powerplay with seven powerplay goals and a team leading 19 powerplay assists in the regular season (4th in the league).

Prior to playing overseas the Brahmas familiarized themselves against Godoy as he participated in the I-20 rivalry as a member of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the 2007-08 campaign. The 5-foot-11 forward posted 50 points (20 G, 30 A) and 76 penalty minutes in 56 games during the regular season. He had a heavy mark on the Mudbug's success on the powerplay with four powerplay goals and 17 helpers. Though his team had the league's best regular season record going into the playoffs, it was the Texas Brahmas who gave Godoy and his team fits as they swept them in four games in the postseason. Godoy had a pair of assists and six penalty minutes in the series.

The 28-year-old winger played one season in the United Hockey League (UHL) with the Muskegon Fury registering 36 points (11 G, 25 A) in 24 games and spent nine games in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Victoria Salmon Kings. As a Salmon King, Godoy had five points (2 G, 3 A). His collegiate career was spent at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 2002-2006. In 133 games Godoy had 121 points (42 G, 79 A) and 164 penalty minutes.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Godoy will spend his first three games as a Brahma on the road playing three games in three nights beginning in Odessa. Texas will take on the Jackalopes tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. It will be the team's first game this season since last year's Southern Conference Finals matchup where the Brahmas won in an impressive matter, 8-1 in the deciding Game Seven. Immediately following the game the Brahmas will hit the road and journey to Hidalgo, Texas for a Friday night game against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees; the puck is scheduled to drop at 7:35 PM. The road trip concludes Saturday evening in Laredo where Brahmas forward James Hiebert will return to the team where he spent six seasons; faceoff is at 7:30 PM. Texas returns home just in time for the Holidays, hosting "NYTEX Honors Military Nights" on Wednesday, November 25 and Sunday, November 29. Odessa will come to town Wednesday, the first night of the Military Nights for a 7:05 PM start. Sunday will be a matinee game against the Tulsa Oilers at 4:05 PM. During the two game series, the Brahmas will be sporting special Lady Liberty jerseys that will be auctioned off after Sunday afternoon's game.
