This Week In Silvertips Hockey

October 9, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

Homestand Continues vs Portland on Sunday

The Everett Silvertips will be hosting three more exciting Western Hockey League clubs over the next week as the home portion of the 2009-10 schedule continues against Portland on October 7th.

The Portland Winterhawks return to Comcast Arena on Sunday following their 4-3 win in Everett on Wednesday. Against a team that should be deep in scoring, the Silvertips look to continue to put shots on net and pressure the Winterhawks' defense in order to get another two points on the season.

Silvertips vs Winterhawks: Sunday, October 11th, 5:05 pm

The Prince Albert Raiders invade Comcast Arena in mid-October, becoming the first Eastern Conference team to play in Everett in 2009-10. A young squad that features several talented young players entering their draft year, center Ryan Harrison looks to lead the Raiders to the playoffs after a breakthrough 16-year old season in which he recorded fourteen goals and 21 assists for 35 points. Defenseman Ryan Button exploded with a 37 point season on the blueline last season and remains one of the stronger puck moving defensemen out east.

Silvertips vs Raiders: Wednesday, October 14th, 7:05 pm

The Seattle Thunderbirds make their first appearance in Snohomish County on Friday, October 16th, featuring a young team with a handful of roster spots occupied by 16-year olds. Perhaps the most heralded of these players is Coppell, TX native Colin Jacobs, who looks to boost Seattle's offensive output following the departure of Jim O'Brien, David Richard and Jeremy Boyer. Goaltender Calvin Pickard enters his draft year as one of the more intriguing goaltending prospects in the WHL; he stopped 46 of 49 shots in a 4-3 victory by Seattle over Everett on opening night. The Silvertips look to return the favor to close out the longest homestand of the season.

Silvertips vs Thunderbirds: Friday, October 16th, 7:35 pm

-the game against the T-Birds next Friday will be the first BECU Family First Friday game of the season. For more information, scroll down on the newsletter, or visit the club's website.

The Silvertips Radio Show continues Tuesday evening from 6-7 pm at Sporty's Beef and Brew, where members of "The Kid Line", Kellan Tochkin and Byron Froese, will be joining host Jon Rosen for another interesting evening of Silvertip Hockey discussion!

To make the show more interactive this season, we're encouraging you to email us your questions (please send emails to jonr@everettsilvertips.com) or submit them to @WHLsilvertips via Twitter so we can read them aloud over the air for our players to answer. We'll also be taking your calls if you're unable to make it to the show.

As always, Tuesdays at Sporty's feature Taco Tuesdays with the 'Tips, where you'll be able to enjoy terrific food and drink specials while learning more about these two interesting players. You'll also be able to catch playoff baseball action live at Sporty's, schedules permitting.

If you are unable to attend the radio show, NorthSound1380 KRKO Radio will be carrying it live, beginning at 6:05 pm.

As always, all Silvertips road games can be watched on the large, drop-down projection screen at Sporty's. When the 'Tips are on the road, Sporty's is your home!

Sunday: Pre-Game Excitement at The Vintage Café

Silvertip fans, The Vintage Café, located at 1508 Hewitt Avenue in Downtown Everett is the official Silvertips pregame spot prior to Sunday's 5:05 pm game against the Portland Winterhawks. October 24th: PINK THE RINK

When the Brandon Wheat Kings come to town on Saturday, October 24th, the Silvertips, along with the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center and the American Cancer Society, will be presenting the first Pink the Rink Night at Comcast Arena.

We're encouraging all fans to dress in pink to show support for all families who have been affected by breast cancer. Proceeds from auction sales of pink sticks signed by members of the Silvertips as well as Peter Mueller, Vincent Lecavalier, Steven Stamkos, and other prominent hockey figures, will also benefit the cause. 100 sticks will be made available for the auction. More information will be provided next week, when we will provide a full release on the extent of the Pink the Rink festivities. We're also offering a post-game skate on the Comcast Arena ice for cancer survivors as part of the Survivors' Skate Pack. For $115 (lower level) or $95 (upper level), you'll receive five tickets to the Pink the Rink game as well as five post-game skate passes. $35 from every package will be donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. There will also be an area where fans will be able to make donations to support breast cancer research.

We look forward to you joining us on this special night that combines Silvertips Hockey and cancer research support.

Jersey Auction to Benefit Scholarships Continues

'Tips fans, would you like to take home a game-worn jersey of your favorite player while benefitting the Silvertips' Scholarship Fund?

Continuing the auction that began earlier this week and running through November 9th, the Silvertips will be hosting a jersey auction on the club's website. This auction, which will begin every Monday for the next six weeks, will allow you to bid on the game-worn jersey of your choice.

The jerseys will be from the 2006-07, 2007- 08 and 2008-09 seasons. Many will be game-worn jerseys of prominent ex-Silvertips, such as Leland Irving, Zach Hamill, Taylor Ellington, as well as former captains and other memorable players. Some jerseys will feature an autograph from that particular player, and all will come with a certificate of authenticity. Approximately three or four jerseys will be put up for auction each week.

Much of the proceeds will help members of the Silvertips receive an education following their playing days. For every season a player plays in the WHL, they receive a full year guaranteed scholarship, including tuition, textbooks and compulsory fees, to a post-secondary institution of their choice.

We thank you in advance for checking out our new auction, which gives you the opportunity to take home a game worn Silvertips jersey while benefitting the education and well-being of the countless players who have called Everett home!

Scuttlebutt Brewery's Sign of the Night

'Tips fans, we continue to receive a great response during Scuttlebutt Brewery's Sign of the Night, and we look forward to the continued display of Silvertip fans' creativity. Once again, during the first intermission, fans are encouraged to display a homemade poster board sign to express their fan-i-tude and have a chance to win great prizes, including the Scuttlebutt Brewery's Sign of the Night.

Spice this up in anyway you see fit - but keep it clean, tasteful, and please respect our opponents. If you forgot your poster board or markers at home, you'll be able to pick up all the artistic supplies you'll need at the Silvertips Team Store for $5.

We're looking forward to you impressing us with your creativity!
