
Generals Team Up with Whitby Minor Hockey for the "Fill Our Bus Challenge"

Oshawa, ON - October 2nd, 2009 - The Oshawa Generals are hooking up with the Whitby Minor Hockey Association to help those in need this Thanksgiving.
On Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex in Whitby, the Generals will hold an open practice and autograph session, along with a special skills competition, in conjunction with their friends in the Whitby Minor Hockey Association.
The fun day begins with the players signing autographs in the lobby from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. After that the club will hold an open practice on Rink One and will then put their skills on display in a fun Skills Competition similar to ones staged at NHL and OHL All-Star Games until 2:15 p.m.
Admission is free, but fans attending are encouraged to bring along a non-perishable food item for the Generals "Fill Our Bus Challenge."
The Generals team bus will be there and the team and the Whitby Minor Hockey Association are hoping to fill the bus with food to help out in local food bank's Thanksgiving Day drives.
Whitby Minor Hockey Association members will be on hand to help out and spokesperson Chris Vavaroutsos is looking forward to what should be a fun day of helping less fortunate members in our community.
"What a great honor it is for Whitby Minor Hockey Association to join hands with the Oshawa Generals in are first annual Thanksgiving Food Drive," Vavaroutsos says. "With the help of the Oshawa Generals, Whitby Minor Hockey hopes to fill up the Generals Bus with toys and dry can food goods to help families in need in the Durham Region."
Oshawa General Manager/Coach Chris DePiero is also looking forward to the special day.
"Anytime we can help out in the community we are happy to," DePiero says. "Our players love meeting the fans and the skills competition will be a lot of fun for them, while at the same time allowing us to do our part to help needy families at Thanksgiving.
"We're delighted that the Whitby Minor Hockey Association is helping us in this endeavour and look forward to seeing fans out with their donations on October 10."
