Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The action continued tonight as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors returned to the Hershey Centre to host the Brampton Battalion in the home opening contest. The atmosphere at the facility was full of energy with 3,456 people in attendance and Majors fans were anxious to see their hometown team for the first time on home ice this year.

It was the second match-up between the next-door rivals as the Majors downed the troops 3-2 back in September at the regular season opener. This time Mississauga battled to an intense 3-2 win in a shootout. As a result the Majors record moves to 3-2-0-0 on the season.

The 1st period started off quickly with the Majors outshooting their opponents 16-10 in the frame. Casey Cizikas connected at 12:20 on the power-play with help from William Wallén and Cameron Gaunce to get the home team up by a tally. Brampton's Sean Jones scored at 18:56 off of passes from Cameron Wind and Sam Carrick to end the frame at a 1-1 deadlock.

Then, Philip Lane put the visitors up 2-1 after putting puck into the Majors net 7:22 into the 2nd period. The assists went to Jones and Brad Albert. This time the shots on goal were 12-9 in favour of the Battalion.

Ryan Lopes produced the only goal in the 3rd period at 3:30 to knot the game for the home squad while Gaunce and Corey Bureau got the assists. Neither team could find the tiebreaker as the affair went into sudden death overtime.

While there was no scoring in the extra frame Wallén potted the lone goal for the Majors in the shootout to get the victory. Jordan Mayer and David Corrente were the other shooters for Mississauga (no goals), and Ian Watters, Jones and Sam Carrick were the shooters for Brampton (no goals). The Majors went first in each round.

Chris Carrozzi got the start in net and made 31 stops while Killeen turned aside a total of 40 shots for the Battalion. Mississauga went 1 for 5 on the power-play while Brampton finished 0 for 4 on the night. The three stars of tonight's game were Wallén (1st), Gaunce (2nd) and Killeen (3rd).

The Barrie Colts drop in this Sunday afternoon for a tilt at 2 p.m. A complete list of the Majors 2009-10 regular season schedule is available at the Majors website (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
