Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - In a pitchers' duel, the Hickory Crawdads out-dueled the Lakewood BlueClaws and barely held on to an early lead, winning 2-1 on Friday Night.

The Crawdads took the lead just three batters into the game. BlueClaws starter Heitor Correa allowed a lead-off walk to Cody Podraza who was sacrificed to second before Erik Morrison hit a double off the wall in left to score Podraza and take a 1-0 lead.

The Crawdads held their 1-0 lead from the third batter of the game until the top of the eighth when they coaxed a run against Ryan Bergh to take a 2-0 lead.

After a 1 hour and 30 minute delay to start the game, Correa (7-5) started the game for the BlueClaws and worked well. After allowing the run early, Correa went a batter into the seventh, allowing just the one run.

The BlueClaws though, began their comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning as Troy Hanzawa was hit by a pitch and Kyle Lafrenz singled to right. The next batter, Korby Mintken hit an RBI single to left to score Hanzawa and make it a 2-1 game. With runners on first and second and no outs, D'Arby Myers popped a bunt up before Harold Garcia grounded into a double play, ending the threat.

Joe Wieland (3-2) started the game for the Crawdads and went just five innings, but allowed just one hit and one run.

With the loss, the BlueClaws have now lost three in a row for the first time all year. They were the final long-season Minor League Baseball team in the country to do so.

The BlueClaws and Crawdads will continue their four-game series on Saturday at 7:05 pm and the second game is an impressive feature of young arms. The BlueClaws will send Trevor May (2-1) to the mound and he will be opposed by Wilmer Font (6-2).
