Frederick Keys News Release

For the first time in 2009, a Frederick Keys starter worked into the eighth inning on Monday night. LHP Zach Britton surrendered three runs in 7.2 innings, helping push Frederick past the Salem Red Sox 4-3.

The Keys got on the scoreboard first against Red Sox starting RHP Eammon Portice. Leadoff batter CF Matt Angle reached on an error. He then stole second, and was driven in by 1B Robbie Widlansky's RBI-double, giving the Keys a 1-0 lead.

2B Ryan Adams led off the second inning for Frederick. He drilled his second homerun of the season on the first pitch he saw, making it 2-0.

Frederick tacked on one more run in the second. With two men down, Angle singled. He then stole second base. SS Pedro Florimon knocked him in with a single to center, giving the Keys a three-run lead.

Britton cruised through the first five innings, but hit a speed bump in the sixth. With two on and two down, 1B Anthony Rizzo clocked a three-run homerun to right, tying the ball game up.

It didn't stay tied for long. With one man down in the Keys' half of the sixth, C Caleb Joseph worked a walk. LF Tyler Henson then grounded into a fielder's choice. He stole second base, and was knocked in by an Adams RBI-single, giving Frederick a 4-3 lead.

Britton got the first two outs in the eighth before giving way to LHP Ryan Rodriguez, who recorded the final four outs of the ball game.

Britton (7-4) allowed three runs, all earned, on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. LHP Armando Zerpa (0-1) took the loss for Salem. Rodriguez (4) was credited with the save.
