Blue Rocks top Cats in pitchers' duel

Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington shut out Lynchburg in a 1-0 pitchers' duel at Frawley Stadium Monday night. A trio of Wilmington pitchers limited the Hillcats to just four hits. Lynchburg will take on the Blue Rocks Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
The two starting pitchers - Wilmington's Eduardo Paulino and Lynchburg's Matt McSwain - each tossed a scoreless opening frame, setting the tone for the ballgame from the outset.
Neither team was able to accomplish much offensively through the first three innings. The Blue Rocks broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Clint Robinson doubled to begin the frame and advanced to third on Eric Hosmer's groundout. Nick Van Stratten drove in Robinson with an RBI groundout, which put Wilmington in front 1-0.
Lynchburg nearly answered in the top of the fifth. Matt Hague and Kris Watts hit consecutive singles to start the inning. But Paulino got Erik Huber to pop out to Ryan Eigsti in foul territory and Eddie Prasch grounded into an inning-ending double play.
The Cats wasted another potential scoring opportunity in the ninth. Jose De Los Santos hit a two-out single off Wilmington reliever Eric Basurto, who was subsequently lifted for Brandon Sisk. De Los Santos stole second base and Sisk walked pinch-hitter Jared Keel. But Sisk recovered and struck out Jordy Mercer to end the game and preserve Wilmington's 1-0 victory.
Paulino (4-6) held the Cats to three hits in seven innings of work and picked up the win. McSwain (8-6) allowed six hits and one earned run in seven innings and was charged with the loss. Sisk earned his 11th save for the Blue Rocks.
Quality pitching from both sides resulted in a quick ballgame. The contest was completed in just two hours and five minutes.
The Cats will attempt to even the three-game set in game two on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
