July 24, 2009 - Atlantic League (AtL) Long Island Ducks

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 24, 2009) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Long Island Ducks 4-0 on Friday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,419 at Citibank Park.

The Bluefish cracked the scoreboard in the visitor's third against Ducks' starter Jake Dittler (2-5). Adam Greenberg singled through the right side followed by a Colin Roberson double to left put runners on the corners. Luis Lopez plated Greenberg on a groundout to third and it was 1-0 Bridgeport. Johnny Hernandez kept it from being a big inning as he caught Roberson cheating off second after a fly ball out to complete an 8-4 doubleplay to end the frame.

Bridgeport pushed the advantage to two runs with seven batters coming to the plate in the fifth. After Roberson walked and Lopez reached on a hit-by-pitch, Brandon Sing looped a single to left and Roberson came around to score from second to make it 2-0. The Bluefish added two more in the top of the seventh using three straight hits. Jesse Hoorelbeke's two-run double was the big blow in the inning and the ‘Fish led it 4-0.

Bluefish starter Dan Reichert (10-6) pitched a complete game five-hitter, while striking out nine. Ducks' relievers Jason Norderum and Robert Paulk worked the final three innings in scoreless fashion.

The Ducks and Bluefish continue their weekend series on Saturday. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Citibank Park gates opening at 6:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 10th Anniversary Water Bottles, presented by Good Samaritan Hospital.
