
Suns Sweep Wednesday Doubleheader

Jackson, Tenn. - The Jacksonville Suns (51-46, 16-11) swept a Wednesday doubleheader against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (44-53, 17-10) with an 8-7 victory in game one before a 4-3, eight-inning win in game t wo in front of a crowd of 1,523 at Pringles Park.
Brad Stone (3-1) picked up the victory for Jacksonville in game one giving up one run in one relief inning. Josh Fields (2-2) fell in the loss for West Tenn, giving up four runs and four hits over two-thirds of an inning. Suns closer Matt Peterson (21) saved the game, increasing his league-leading total.
West Tenn opened the scoring in the first inning with five runs, sending all nine hitters to the plate. Mel Stocker and Greg Halman led off with back-to-back homeruns off Suns starter Nic Ungs to open a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Matt Mangini drove in two runs with a two-out double before a Guillermo Quiroz double scored Mangini for a 5-0 score.
Jacksonville finally broke through against Diamond Jaxx starter Kyle Parker in the fourth inning. A Scott Cousins double, Lee Mitchell single and Brad Davis walk loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Klosterman then belted a grand slam homerun over the 24-foot wall in left field to cut the West Tenn lead to 5-4.
The Diamond Jaxx extended the lead to two runs in the fourth inning when Guillermo Quiroz belted a solo homerun for a 6-4 score.
Jacksonville gained the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Lee Mitchell drove home Mike Stanton with a two-out double for a 6-5 game. Kevin Randel next belted a single into the right field corner to score Mitchell for a 6-6 score. Finally after Mumba Rivera entered from the bullpen and walked Ryan Klosterman to load the bases, Bryan Petersen's single to centerfield drove in Randel and Brad Davis for an 8-6 Suns lea d.
West Tenn shaved the Suns lead to one run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Johan Limonta solo homerun, for an 8-7 score.
In game two, Suns reliever Jay Voss (2-0) picked up a relief win with a one-hit seventh inning. Diamond Jaxx reliever Danny Christensen (0-5) fell in the loss after allowing the extra-inning run. Suns closer Matt Peterson (22) saved another game with a scoreless eighth inning.
Jacksonville opened the scoring in game two with a two-out rally. Mike Stanton doubled and later scored on a Logan Morrison base hit for a 1-0 score.
The Diamond Jaxx took the lead in the second inning, also with a two-out rally. Hits from Colt Morton and Travis Garcia followed by a Brent Johnson walk loaded the bases. Jimmy Mojica cleared the bases with a double, opening a 3-1 West Tenn lead.
The Suns cut the lead to one run in the fourth inning on a Scott Cousins RBI triple, making it a 3-2 West Tenn lead. Jacksonville tied the game in the top of the seventh inning on a Kevin Randel pinch single, driving home Bryan Petersen from second base for a 3-3 score.
Jacksonville took the lead for good in the top of the eighth inning. Logan Morrison led off with a walk and came around to score on Scott Cousins' second triple of the game for a 4-3 lead.
