Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Wednesday night's doubleheader was a tale of two different styles of victory for the Lookouts. The first game involved 16 hits and a 14-7 victory for Chattanooga. Both teams combined for 12 doubles, which tied the Southern League record for doubles in a game. In the second game, Lookouts starting pitcher Kendy Batista combined with two relievers to throw a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 finish.

Everyone in the Lookouts' lineup batted in the first inning, which resulted in five runs. A two-run shot from Ramon Nivar and A Lucas May solo shot highlighted the big rally. Justin Sellers also chipped in with a two-run double.

Chattanooga kept rolling in the second with three more runs. Nivar hit an RBI triple to account for the first run of the inning and scored on an Andrew Lambo sacrifice fly to left. Josh Bell followed with a double off of the center field wall. Lucas May then nailed a single to score Bell.

Tommy Giles led off with a double in the third and eventually scored on an Adam Godwin single to augment the Lookouts' lead, 9-0. Mobile finally entered the scoreboard in the fifth by scoring two runs on a trio of singles by Mark Hallberg, Pete Clifford, and Evan Frey.

The Lookouts kept swinging their bats in the fifth and scored four more runs. RBI doubles from Joe Becker and Jesus Castillo combined with a two-run shot from Adam Godwin to account for much of the damage.

The BayBears exploded for five runs on four singles and two doubles in the sixth to put the score at a more respectable 13-7.

Becker collected another RBI in the sixth on a single to put the score at its final resting point, 14-7.

Castillo (6-7) picked up the win for the Lookouts. In 5.2 innings of work, he yielded seven runs on eight hits and four walks. Cody Evans (4-10) relinquished 13 runs (12 earned) on 14 hits and two walks in four innings of work for the BayBears.

The Lookouts' bats kept their momentum, as Russ Mitchell hit a solo shot in the second inning to give the Lookouts the early lead in the second contest of the night.

Chattanooga tacked on two more runs in the third. With one out, James Tomlin singled and made his way to third on a subsequent Nivar double. A wild pitch thrown by Kyler Newby resulted in the speedy Tomlin gliding his way home. Mitchell would eventually single to plate Nivar.

The Lookouts pitching staff would need no further assistance, as Kendy Batista (5-0) threw five innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, while only allowing one hit.

Victor Garate pitched a perfect sixth, while Matt Sartor also displayed perfection in the seventh and final inning to earn his ninth save of the season.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mobile BayBears will continue their six-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
