CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - After a game one slugfest, the nightcap was much quieter, but the result was the same as the Chattanooga Lookouts took two from the BayBears on Wednesday night at AT&T Field, 14-7 and 3-0.

In the opening contest, Cody Evans (4-10) was severely roughed up as he got caught for 13 runs (12 earned) on 14 hits in four-plus innings. Evans fell into a 5-0 hole in the first as Ramon Nivar got the scoring started with a two-run homer. Two hitters later, Lucas May went yard to make it 3-0. Justin Sellers added a pair with a double into the right field corner to drive home Russ Mitchell and Tommy Giles.

Chattanooga (44-52, 14-13) continued the onslaught with three in the second and another in the third. The BayBears (51-46, 14-13) were down nine before they finally touched the plate in the fifth with Pete Clifford doubling home Mark Hallberg. Clifford then scored on a two-bagger by Evan Frey. In game one, the two squads combined for 12 doubles which tied a Southern League record for the most in one contest.

Roque Mercedes made his BayBear debut out of the bullpen in the first ballgame as he worked a scoreless inning behind Evans who coughed up four more in the fifth before being pulled. Adam Godwin blasted a two-run jack to chase Evans from the game.

In the nightcap, the BayBears only mustered up one base hit against the Chattanooga pitching staff. Kendy Batista (5-0) surrendered a first-inning single to Yunesky Sanchez, and that was it. Batista tossed five frames while Victor Garate and Matt Sartor (S, 9) closed it out. Between the three of them, they retired the last 16 men to come to the plate.

Chattanooga grabbed the lead from Kyler Newby (2-1) who made his first professional start in the second as Mitchell clubbed his 10th homer. A wild pitch by Newby in the third brought James Tomlin home to make it 2-0. Mitchell singled in Nivar off Josh Ellis to add another tally to the Lookout lead.

The Mobile BayBears have sent nearly 100 players to the major leagues. They battle the Lookouts in game four of their six-game set on Thursday night at 6:15 central time with Matt Torra (6-8, 3.55) getting the start. The BayBears return home on Monday, July 27 to host Ryne Sandberg and the Tennessee Smokies at 7:05 p.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
