
Grizzlies Drop Finale, Series To Crushers

SAUGET, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies surrendered a franchise-record seven home runs to the Lake Erie Crushers Sunday night as the Crushers took the finale of a three-game series 15-8 in front of 4,611 at GCS Ballpark. The Crushers won the final two games of the series to win the series.
Lake Erie (27-23) scored four times in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead and chase Grizzlies starter Jamie Arneson. Gordon Gronkowski hit a three-run home run to get the Crushers on the board.
The Grizzlies (20-30) answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Jareck West walked with the bases loaded to get the Grizzlies on the board. Brandon Johnson followed with a three run double to tie the game. Joe Agreste, a true rookie from West Virginia University, added his first RBI as a professional, driving in a run on a fielder's choice, and the Grizzlies led 5-4. The lead would be short-lived.
Lake Erie answered with four more runs in the top of the fifth to re-gain the lead, and for good. Adam Bowling, on in relief for Gateway, allowed the runs. Gronkowski hit his second three-run home run of the night in the inning. Luke Hetherington followed with a solo homer and the Crushers led 8-5. Bowling (3-5) lasted only the one inning.
Agreste added his second RBI in the fifth inning and finished 3-5 with the two RBIs.
The Crushers scored three times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh to go up 13-6. Danny Morrow hit a two-run home run in the seventh for the Grizzlies to make it 13-8. Lake Erie scored twice more in the top of the eighth to finish out the scoring.
The Midwest Sliders come to town to begin a three-game series Monday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
