South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Lansing, MI - The bat of Reynaldo Navarro and the arm of Brett Moorhouse led the South Bend Silver Hawks to a 7-1 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon. Navarro went three-for-five and Moorhouse allowed just one run in 6.0 innings as South Bend improve to 4-6 in the second half.
The Silver Hawks added another 14 hits in the game Sunday against Lansing, after setting a season high with 17 hits last night. Navarro now has seven hits in 10 at-bats in this series against the Lugnuts.
South Bend got the scoring started in the top of the third inning, plating three runs on six hits against John Anderson (LP, 2-6). Navarro had a one out double and scored on a RBI single by Alfredo Marte, who picked up his team-leading 42nd RBI of the year. A.J. Pollock legged out an infield single, and both runners advanced on a balk by Anderson. Marc Krauss brought them home with a single to right, giving him eight RBIs in 15 games this season.
South Bend added another run in the fourth, with Navarro again playing a major role. Chris Davis started the inning with a double, and Navarro drove him home with a single to left. It was Navarro's third hit of the game, his seventh of the series, and his second RBI in as many games, putting South Bend in front 4-0.
Lansing finally got a run off of Moorhouse (WP, 4-8) in the bottom of the sixth inning with Johermyn Chavez driving in Tyler Pastornicky on a sacrifice fly. It was the only run allowed by Moorhouse in his 6.0 innings, helping him to his second straight victory.
South Bend came back with three runs in the eighth inning against reliever Dustin Antolin (ND). Pollock singled, stole second, and scored when Krauss' ground ball went through the legs of first baseman Mike McDade for an error. Krauss found himself on third with two outs, scoring on a wild pitch for the 6-1 lead. Davis added a RBI double off of Hunter Moody (ND) to cap the scoring as the Hawks were out in front 7-1.
Justin Mace (ND) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, while Yonata Ortega (ND) recorded the final three outs for South Bend.
The four game series continues Monday evening with game three at Lansing beginning at 7:05 PM Eastern Time. RHP Randy Rodriguez (1-6, 5.36 ERA) gets the starting nod for South Bend, while Lansing counters with RHP Jonas Cuotto (1-4, 5.66 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 PM on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
