Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars fell behind early Thursday night against the Peoria Chiefs and never recovered, dropping a 3-1 final in front of 6,816 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Anthony Capra suffered the loss, and the Cougars' offense had seven hits but stranded seven. The Cougars still can take three out of four in the set with a win Friday.

Capra gave up a pair of lead-off homers -- in the third and fourth -- for the early deficit and got touched for one more in the sixth before leaving. He yielded three runs on three hits, walked two and fanned seven over 5 2/3 innings. Scott Deal and Brett Hunter combined for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in his stead.

The Cougars did not score against Peoria starter Chris Archer (3-2), who tossed five innings. They managed their only run in the seventh against Alberto Cabrera on a Carlos Arrieche RBI single. The Cougars went 1-2-3 twice and had seven hits but stranded seven. They had the tying run at the plate in the ninth when the game ended. Chris Huseby posted his eighth save.

The series finale is Friday at 6 CDT. The Cougars (4-3) send Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (0-1, 0.00) to the mound, and Peoria (2-5) will counter with Jeffrey Beliveau (2-2, 3.23).
