Home stand Preview: July 4-13

The playoff-bound Cedar Rapids Kernels open their first home stand of the second half on Saturday, July 4th at 5:05 pm. The Fun's Right Here with a rundown of what you can expect each day:

July 4-7 vs. Quad Cities River Bandits

The Kernels open a ten game home stand with four games against the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

The home stand starts with a bang on Saturday, July 4th when the Kernels take on Quad Cities at 5:05 pm. It's Armed Forces Night, presented by the Milling Company, as the Kernels will be wearing special digital camouflage jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction during the game. Present your military ID at the ticket window and receive Club tickets for $6.50 and Plaza tickets for $5.00. You'll want to be here when the gates open at 4:00 pm as the first 1,000 children, 12 and under, through the gates receive a free regulation-size youth baseball bat, courtesy of McDonald's. After the game, enjoy a post-game concert by the Large Midgets, families can head onto the field to play catch in the outfield or run the bases, and then enjoy a spectacular FIREWORKS show around 9:30 pm.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates when they open at 1 pm on Sunday, July 5th receive a free set of 2009 Kernels baseball cards, sponsored by Perfect Game USA. It's Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty day as former Iowa Hawkeye and current San Diego Charger kicker, Nate Kaeding will be here to kick 16 autographed NFL footballs into the stands during the game as well as signing autographs on the concourse. The Kernels will wear special Iowa Hawkeye jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction on the concourse during the game. It's a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day. Fans can get autographs from the Kernels on the concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm, enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the main concourse, play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game, and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game. The Kernels take on Quad Cities with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 pm.

The Kernels and River Bandits continue their series on Monday, July 6th. The Kernels welcome the Washington Township Red Team to the games. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch is set for 6:35 pm.

The Kernels will be wearing special jerseys on MDA/ALS night on Tuesday, July 7th when they take on Quad Cities at 6:35 pm. The special blue jerseys will be sold via a silent auction on the concourse during the game with the proceeds to benefit ALS research. Every Tuesday home game is KRAFT Singles Day at the ballpark! Fans can bring in a KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium box office, buy one ticket and get one ticket free from KRAFT Singles! And, it's 98.1 KHAK Two Dollar Tuesday where 12 oz. draft beer, regular hot dogs, bottled soda, peanuts and nachos are $2 all game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

July 8-10 vs. Fort Wayne Tincaps

The Kernels continue a ten game home stand with three games against the Fort Wayne Tincaps, the Midwest League affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

You'll want to get here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 8th as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free player magnet of former Kernel and current LA Angels pitcher Joe Saunders, presented by Xquisite Limo, Mix 96.5 FM and WMT AM 600. The Kernels welcome special guests from Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids to the game. The Kernels and Tincaps square off at 6:35 pm.

It's Country Night at the Stadium on Thursday, July 9th when the Kernels take on Fort Wayne at 6:35 pm. Enjoy country music all game and $1.50 12 oz. draft beer, presented by 98.1 KHAK. Stick around for a concert after the game by 8 Seconds on the main concourse. The Kernels welcome special guests from True North Companies to the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

The one and only (thank goodness) BIRDZERK will be at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, July 10th when the Kernels and Tincaps wrap up their three game series at 6:35 pm. Birdzerk will have you laughing all night at his zany skits and crazy antics and his visit is presented by KCRG TV9 and The Gazette. You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Z 102.9 Progressive Beer Night as 16 oz. draft beer starts at $1 and goes up a buck an hour until reaching full price. The Kernels welcome special guests from Marengo and USSSA to the game.

July 11-13 vs. Dayton Dragons

The Kernels conclude a ten game home stand with three games against the Dayton Dragons, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

It's everyone's favorite - FIREWORKS when the Kernels take on Dayton at 6:35 pm on Saturday, July 11th. The Kernels welcome special guests from Vinton and the YMCA to the game. Then, enjoy a spectacular post-game FIREWORKS show lights up the night sky. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

Sunday is always a fun day and it's even more so on 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day when the Kernels take on Dayton at 2:05 pm on Sunday, July 12th. Fans can get autographs from the Kernels on the main concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm, enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the concourse and play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game, and play catch in the outfield and run the bases after the game. The Kernels welcome guests from Mount Vernon and Lisbon to their community day at the stadium. Gates open at 1:00 pm.

The Kernels wrap up the long home stand with a noon game on Monday, July 13th, presented by 104.5 KDAT. Take a break from the workplace and enjoy a baseball game under warm, summer skies. Gates open at 11 am and the Kernels and Dayton Dragons do battle at 12:05 pm.

Fans may purchase tickets for all Kernels home games on-line at www.kernels.com or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
